La Caledonia is the right place to spend an afternoon with family, close to nature and animals.

Welcome to our site!

La Caledonia is a field that has focused on sheep farming from the beginning of time. But with so many beautiful sunsets, summers, winters and so many beautiful experiences we had together as a family, we learned to discover the potential of the charm of our landscapes and the warmth of our place.

Family photo

On the left, it's us. On the right, are our guests. In the back, it's our cottage and the logo made out of stone slab.

It was finally the pass of time, people and the desire to share, which made us definitively focus on Rural Tourism. A Rural Tourism that might be a little unusual because we do not offer our guests luxurious treatment or greatly exaggerated comfort, but the chance to enjoy the beauty of our fields and facilities. We offer a homemade dinner, stories, tours and a very nice family atmosphere.

Hall of the main house

Our dining room remains almost the same state since 1940. There have been a thousand stories around that campfire.

Our History

In 1889 the Lauriente family arrived Argentina from Italy, and settled in the Patagonian plateau to focus in sheep farming. In the forties, a part of the family settled in the area of Gansu laufquen, now the province of Rio Negro, with the idea of forming a productive unit.

• Edgardo Lauriente in La Caledonia. • Edgardo and his sister Gesica.
He was our father and the 4th generation that lived in La Caledonia.

They found a rocky red landscape, some natural springs, a ranch and some tamarisk. They formed what now is called "La Caledonia": fifteen thousand acres of Patagonian steppe which they preserved almost in its natural state.

About the House:

The house (the one you see in the begining) is surrounded by a lush planting of creole poplars, and silver poplars, willows, acacias, elms and conifers, which grew up struggling with the hard ground and the wind.

Today, the 5th generation of the family is still rooted in the Patagonian geography, by means of constant efforts, work and dedication over many years in this area. The field has given us everything and also teaches us a lot about a simple life from balance and harmony.

Logo of 'Meseta Infinita'

Meseta Infinita makes possible to discover the real depth in the meaning of Patagonia. You will unveil the Patagonia that has been inhabited for thousands of years and that has survived in the stories of XIX Century travellers: George Claraz, George Chaworth Musters, Francisco Pascasio Moreno and others... Patagonia, the ultimate frontier.

Visit Meseta Infinita

We are in "Meseta Infinita"

Meseta Infinita is group of organized sheep breeders and craftswomen offering a variety of tours and activities for visitors to enjoy Meseta de Somuncura and Patagonia Steppe.

The fiel La Caledonia is part of a tourism project, more precisely called "productive project" which includes part of the steppe and Somuncurá Plateau. It is a great natural reserve located at south of the province of Rio Negro and at the north of the province of Chubut.

We share a common goal: Sustainable development of natural and cultural tourism in our region, the heart of Patagonia.
